2009 Fall Harvest Festival

2009 Fall Harvest Festival Memories

This Year’s Event a Success!

This year’s Fall Harvest Festival, held at Mill Neck Manor on October 10 and 11, was a success! Thousands of participants visited the campus for a variety of apples, crafts, grilled bratwurst, children’s games and much more. Congratulations to this year's 50/50 raffle winner, Jim McLoughlin from Riverview, Florida, who won $6,650.00! Fall Harvest Festival proceeds benefit the Mill Neck Family of Organizations, which include Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, the Mill Neck Manor Early Childhood Center and Mill Neck Services for Deaf Adults. For more information, please call (516) 922-4100 or visit www.millneck.org.

1. Attendees of all ages visit the Fall Harvest Festival, commonly known as the “Apple Fest,” each year. In honor of the renowned moniker, this group spells the word “apple” in sign language.
2. The children’s area attracts many families each Columbus Day weekend. Here, a family poses in the popular pumpkin patch.
3. Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf students, along with several advisors who are also staff members, ran the soda booth. Funds raised from that booth support student programs and events.
4. Many students from local schools gain community service hours by volunteering each year. These two girls helped out in the Empire Apple area.
5. Consumers from the new Mill Neck Services Day Habilitation Center, located in Hicksville, not only attended the Festival this year but also helped assemble apple boxes and lunch tickets in preparation of the annual event. Here, consumers Edwin, Marisa and Manny, and their friend Dawn, pose for a picture while signing the phrase “I Love You.”
6. Kids and adults alike love the Festival face painting tent. Here, two girls show off the magnificent artwork of Agostino Arts.
7. At the Festival, Mill Neck mascot Buddy Bear taught children sign language and posed for pictures.
8. Mill Neck Services ran the Mums area at the Fall Harvest Festival. Here, Vocational Evaluator John Saal shows he was dressed for the part.
9. Each year, the corn roasting booth draws many fans, including Tamara Pilson.
10. Michele Purcell, a Mill Neck Manor Early Childhood Center alumni parent and musician, performed children’s music at the Festival.
