54th Annual Gold Coast Fashion Award Show

ROMONA KEVEZA WINS GOLD COAST FASHION AWARD AT 54th ANNUAL GOLD COAST FASHION AWARD SHOW TO BENEFIT CHILDREN’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

A capacity crowd of 1,300 people attended the 54th Annual Gold Coast Fashion Award Show, the signature fundraising event of The Children’s Service Board, an affiliated organization of Children’s Memorial Hospital. The show was held on Wednesday, September 9 at the Hilton Chicago.

This year’s show raised more than $300,000. Proceeds from the show will go towards The Children’s Service Board’s commitment to support the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children’s Memorial, the largest provider of pediatric surgery in the Chicago area. The event’s co-chairs were Janette Acton of Lemont and Jeniece Higgins of Lake Forest. Turner Construction was the corporate sponsor for the show.

The show included individual store-sponsored segments from prestigious Chicago retailers and a competition segment where emerging designers competed for the coveted Gold Coast Fashion Award. The audience selects each year’s winner by voting for their favorite designer.

This year’s Gold Coast Fashion Award went to Romona Keveza whose Fall/Winter 2009 collection of evening wear thrilled the audience with its elegant lines and luxurious fabrics.

Other participating designers included: Christian Cota, Ina Soltani, Cesar Galindo, Venexiana, Angel Chang, Robert Rodriguez and Thuy. Retail presentations of fall fashions were presented by Dennis Basso, Chalk Boutique presenting kaufmanfranco, Escada, J. Mendel, Michael Kors, The Lake Forest Shop presenting Michael De Paulo, Mark Shale presenting the men’s segment, Neapolitan presenting Andrew Gn, Neiman Marcus presenting Fendi and Saks Fifth Avenue presenting Yigal Azroel. David Yurman hosted the Grand Staircase entrance during the cocktail hour with displays of fabulous jewelry.

Fashions from both the designers and retailers were presented in a fast-paced, live runway show produced by Susan Glick, vice president, Women’s Apparel, for Merchandise Mart Properties. Last year’s winner, Norman Ambrose, opened the show with his fall collection and was on hand to accept the award.

Guests dined on a luncheon of broiled Great Lakes whitefish with tomato and kalamata olive compote. A bibb and butter lettuce salad with chilled tomato basil soup was the starter course and a trio of homemade sorbets was served for dessert.

Gold Coast Fashion Award winners from previous years include Oleg Cassini, Bill Blass, Carolyn Roehm, Anne Klein, Pamela Dennis, Donna Karan, Maria Pinto, b Michael, Monique Lhuillier, Dennis Basso and Gustavo Cadile. Hair styling was provided by Michael & Michael and make up was provided by Aveda.

Children’s Memorial Hospital, Chicago, is recognized as one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country by rankings published in U.S. News & World Report and serves as a major regional referral center. Its physicians are on the faculty at the Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. The hospital is currently engaged in the Heroes for Life campaign to raise a minimum of $600 million to help create Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and support its medical and nursing professionals, programs and research. As a not-for-profit organization, Children’s Memorial relies on philanthropy to help provide care to 126,000 patients and their families every year. For more information visit childrensmemorial.org.
