Stars "Give" LOVE - A Benefit for WET's 10th Season

Stars "Give" LOVE - A Benefit for WET's 10th Season

Celebrating their 10th season, the non-profit company, WET Productions, was excited to host their annual LOVE benefit, a one-night-only performance of short plays on love, benefitting the non-profit in their fight to end gender inequality.

The performance, made up of short plays on the subject of LOVE, featured material written by some of the country's most recognized up and coming female writers and performed by a group of the industry's most talented and celebrated actors. With the likes of Debra Messing, Perrey Reeves, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lauren Ambrose, Gretchen Mol and Blythe Danner directed by Abby Epstein, the evening raised vital funds for WET's 2009 production season and it's unique leadership and media-literacy program for NYC teenage girls.

Held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on Manhattan's Lower East Side on Monday February 9th, the spectacular space was recreated by lauded event designer, Bryant Keller. With a cast of stars and a production team led by the always inspiring and dynamic duo, Sasha Eden and Victoria Pettibone. The LOVE plays was followed by WET's notorious and always gorgeous pre-Valentine's Day Gala, completed with open bar, and hors d'oeuvres sponsored by various New York City restaurants, and dancing to New York City's best underground celebrity DJ, DJ Mr. Blue.

The short plays selected for the performance portion of LOVE each explored various scenarios connected to love. Sasha Eden, Creative Director of WET, says "our LOVE of creating, LOVE of life, LOVES in our lives, LOVE for humanity, LOVE of what we do - this is what inspires us and gives us strength daily. LOVE is a launching pad for possibility and change - and that is what WET is all about". The stars, many of whom are now ongoing supporters of WET, all lended their talent and time in support of the organization's cause. As well as developing and producing media that challenges female stereotypes and advocates for equality,

WET is also in the fifth year of their highly successful educational outreach program, WET's Risk Takers Film Series, a city-wide media-literacy and leadership program for 150 teenage girls, created to increase girls' self esteem, helping them learn how to look at the media with a critical eye as well as recognize and avoid at risk behavior. All funds raised from the event will directly benefit WET's 2009 season.
