The Society of Young Philanthropists’ fundraiser

The Society of Young Philanthropists (SYP) hosted its Sixth Annual Gala at a private estate in Beverly Hills on Saturday night, raising more than $30,000 in ticket sales.

$25,000 in proceeds from the May 1st event will be donated to the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic and Comfort the Children International. The remaining funds support SYP’s endowment which continues philanthropic work in the community.

Over 450 young professionals 21 – 35 years old decked out in top hats, tuxedos and sequins, made a minimum donation of $150 to attend the charity fundraiser. The “Old Hollywood Glamour” themed event featured open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and entertainment. Mobile Photo Lounge sponsored a photo booth stocked with feather boas, hats and other props to fit the theme.

Other sponsors include Seventh Generation, Function Drinks, Robert Mondavi Wine, Pink Dot, D’Amores Pizza, Salad Farm, Maggie’s Pastry, HotWeazel, and Red Bull. Pam Morrisson of Pacific Events handled décor. VIP guests enjoyed exclusive tables, bottle service and gift bags, including Seventh Generation CEO Jeffrey Hollendar’s new book.

“We chose to support CTC because the organization reminds us so much of our own – all young professionals working for a better tomorrow,” SYP President Leyla Kashani said. “CTC focuses sustainability, education, economic projects, healthcare, community development and environmental awareness. The team’s committed on-the-ground involvement in Kenya has already made a strong impact. Our Executive Board’s motivation has continued to grow stronger than ever working as a team and being able to be part of making magic a way of life for other counties and communities.”

“We chose LACGC as our local beneficiary, as most of us have grown up in LA and see the struggles many of these youth go through,” Kashani continued. “We feel passionately that all youth should have the opportunities that we have had, and our relationship with LACGC has gone beyond a donation. We have had the chance to be role models for the children, the community and get hands on with the organization.”

Last year’s gala raised $20,000 for Generation Rescue, Jenny McCarthy’s non-profit focusing on research, treatment, and support for families affected by autism, as well as Save a Child’s Heart, an international humanitarian project providing pediatric cardiac care for children from developing countries.
